About BJ

BJ is, as usual, taking July and August off from teaching regular classes. So spoiled! So fortunate!

She has been a full time teacher of Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Power and hatha yoga in Ottawa for eight years. She studied Iyengar yoga for twelve years, with senior teachers in both Canada and Australia, before beginning her study of Ashtanga yoga at Santosha Yoga Centre, Ottawa, in 1998. She has taken innumerable teacher training and intensive workshops over the years, including with such luminaries as B.K.S. Iyengar, Ramanand Patel, and Richard Freeman. BJ also enjoys Sivananda, Bikram, Moksha and classical Kundalini yoga. United Yoga Montreal's Hart Lazer is a current major influence.

Also a meditation teacher, BJ was a travelling student of the late Namgyal Rinpoche for ten years, and has studied meditation extensively in the Tibetan Buddhist and vipassana traditions and undertaken a number of group and solitary retreats in Asia and North and South America.

BJ's classes are an opportunity to practice energetically, while simultaneously stilling the mind. Attention is paid to the movement of body, breath, and energy, and bodily experience is recognized as a metaphor of our emotional and spiritual circumstances. BJ aspires to help her students to live more fully through their experience ‘on the mat' and to cultivate in them a keen awareness of the inner and transcendent aspects of yoga as well as its physical benefits.

My Quotations

"All living beings...want happiness and not suffering. However, we are only one, whereas others are infinite in number. Thus it can clearly be seen that others gaining happiness is more important than just ourselves alone."
HH the 14th Dalai Lama

"Yoga is the opportunity to undo the effects of years of worshipping what we are not."

Private Sessions

BJ appreciates the opportunity to teach private sessions to prepare students for public classes, to create customized therapeutic programs, or to assists athletes with cross training. One-on-one transmission of yoga knowledge is a time-honoured tradition.
